Today it becomes quite popular to install a turbocharger, in order to boost up a vehicle. Those who are only going to purchase a car usually give their preference to models with already built-in turbos. Especially, if it comes to vehicles with diesel engines which are well-known for their poor performance.
Car manufacturers prefer to install turbochargers, because it allows them to offer their customers high-power cars with comparatively small engines. Besides, since turbochargers are not large, it is possible to install them into small cars.
A turbocharger is a small fan pump that is driven by the energy of engine’s exhaust gases. It really adds more performance to an engine that is very appreciated by the drivers. In compresses air and thus more air and hence fuel comes to an engine – and this really makes miracles.
Nowadays cars with turbochargers are considered to be really cool, and hence many drivers strive to install turbo kits under the hoods of their iron friends. And no one actually pays attention to the exorbitant price for the kit – usually all parts and their installation cost thousands of dollars. But this is not a serious obstacle for drivers who want to speed up their vehicles. So, epidemic installation of turbo kits may be compared with paranoia – car enthusiasts strive to have turbochargers by hedge or by stile. And not always their yearning is justified.
So, in case you are infected with a common disease called “turbocharging”, just make a pause before you actually start spending money for a costly turbo kit and think whether you really need it. To answer this question you should think of driving conditions you’ve got used to.
Obviously, if you are keen on street racing or use your car for long distances then a turbocharger will be rather useful for you, since you’ll get a faster car without changing the engine. And this is reasonable at least in terms of fuel saving, isn’t it?
But what if you live in a big city and your usual route is “home-work-home”? What about all those traffic jams you get stuck in every day? Is there any chance for you to use the maximum performance of your turbo car? I guess – not. Installing a turbocharger will be just a waste of money in this case, since you won’t need full performance of your car.
In this case, if you have some extra money to spend for upgrading your car, better spend it for improving its driving characteristics. Changing shock absorbers, wheels, suspension etc. will be rather useful and you will feel more comfortable and confident while driving your car. So, think twice before you spend your money – find out what is really useful for you.
