Nobody likes to have heartburn. Symptoms include a burning sensation that runs through the stomach, chest and behind the breastbone. Also known as Acid Reflux, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease is a condition where acid contained in liquids in the stomach back up the esophagus causing acute heartburn. If left untreated the lining of the esophagus could be damaged and cause problems with swallowing and even cancer.

· Drinking milk forms a layer which helps protect from heartburn
· Chewing peppermints especially after food is effective.

A change in diet is your first step to beating heartburn. Make a list of everything you eat over seven days and note any foods or drinks that bring on heartburn. Once you know which foods they are you can then take these from your diet. You can also find eating late at night brings on heartburn so make sure your last snack is mid evening to prevent this from happening.
Controlling what you eat and using home remedies such as above can control heartburn and prevent it becoming to frequent. Remember, acute heartburn or Acid Reflux can cause long term damage or even cancer.
